The Supreme Court and Love and Sex

I find it fascinating how anyone would think the Supreme Court of the United States should be involved in who a consenting adult has sex with and/or loves. That the Supreme Court would be interested in putting themselves in this position is perplexing. One: these are deeply PERSONAL choices for an individual as it involves their lifestyle; and Two, has absolutely nothing to do with a person's ABILITY to be a valuable member and contributor to society.

This caused a discussion among several close friends and several family members where religion was mentioned several times as a motivation for moving these issues on to the Supreme Court.

Seriously, RELIGION? We do have a nation founded on fundamental principles, one of which is a separation of church and state. This serves our nation well unless we loose sight of its purpose...religious beliefs are as vast as the differing branches of it; no religious belief is therefore favored over another as any basis for forming laws for the people.

Religious beliefs have never been good at promoting equality for individuals or the sanctity of life. In fact religious beliefs when used by governments are more for controlling people and has led to some pretty bloody messes in history (take the example of two of the bloodiest; the Crusades and the Inquisition ).

As for the concept of marriage, which was also mentioned during our conversations, God held no ceremony nor declared Adam and Eve married. Mankind declared them married when writing about them. God did not state they were married.

Mankind gets away with a lot when it comes to interpreting the Creator's will.  History has proven the Creator's will often "becomes" the will of a person or persons, to justify their inhumanity and intolerance of person or persons different from them. I just wish more people studied history.…...it's an eye opener.

It never ends well when religion, instead of reason, is considered in the making of any laws governing the people. It never ends will when a religious belief is turned into legislation.

Question: What kind of Leader do you respect?

It's interesting to me how people support a Leader they do not respect. I've lost count of how many people I've heard or heard quoted, "I don't agree with him or her but....", "I don't like their policies; their behavior; their attitude... BUT...

Seriously
I mean SERIOUSLY????

In my life I have come to the realization that adding my support to someone whom I do not respect, only lays the foundation of a dysfunctional relationship and weakens my integrity and the respect others have for me.

What got me thinking about this? I was listening to a comment made by our President. I have decided I do not respect him.

It then got me to pondering; WHY I do not respect him. Is it my personal values? The reaction of those people who interact with him? Is it the results of his policies? Is it the people who follow him and their actions? All of these, I decided had some impact on my decision.

Ultimately, I decided I cannot respect someone of such unkindness to others. Such lack of compassion, and need, to better the conditions of their fellow men and women. I cannot respect someone who fails to realize it is the BEHAVIOR of a person, not their culture, color, religion, or origin that determines how valued they are among their fellow men and women. I cannot respect someone who FAILS to RESPECT all the people they were elected to serve. I cannot respect someone who FAILS to SERVE all the people they were elected to serve.

The Right to.......get over yourself.

The "right to bear arms" does not guarantee anyone the freedom to bear ANY "arms" they wish... or any number they wish.

The "right to free speech" does not guarantee you an audience for your "speech" or the right to censor anyone who has an opposing view.

Just because YOU want it, doesn't mean you get it YOUR way.

We are not living in a Burger King commercial. YOU do not always get it YOUR way.

Get over yourself.

and I just had to add this comment...

And to those well meaning people who want to "arm" teachers? You want to place a weapon that can KILL into the hands of a person, SURROUNDED on a DAILY basis, by YOUNG people whose emotions and behavior are often times dramatic, exaggerated and on occasion, violent. Let ONE upset enraged young person, surrounded by an audience of friends, see a gun,......and guess what they are going for, and an "I'm sorry" isn't going to fix this. WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKING? SERIOUSLY.............. are any of you parents??? Where's YOUR responsibility?

Freedom From Fear

People come together to form a nation ,with a government put simply, to aid them in the right to be free from fear. People form a nation and a government because we acknowledge that right.

So what do we fear?

The inability to preserve our life or the lives of those in our care.
The inability to protect our life or the lives of those in our care.
The inability to provide for oneself.
The inability to provide for those in our care.
The inability to protect our property.
The inability of all people to be treated as equal.

So we form and support a nation and a government:

To protect our life and the lives of those in our care.
To preserve our life and the lives of those in our care.
To provide for oneself.
To provide for those in our care.
To protect and preserve our property.
That all people be treated equally.

We pool our money in support of our government to protect these rights.

Over the generations greed and special interests have whittled away our support for these rights within our government, and it has become an agency promoting those very things we fear.
.
Think on this....

Our governments embroils us in the business of other nations and we the people have and will face injury and death as this continues.
Our government fails to support basic health care and fails to regulate the costs health care agencies charge we the people which will continue to lead to illness and/or death.
Our government allows foreign interest and local business to regulate our basic pay and health care which undermines our ability to provide for our self and promotes poverty and illness among we the people.
Our government allows special interests/business to pollute  our land, our water, our air, preventing we the people the right to protect our property and/or preserve our life.
Our government promotes fear of our individual differences rather than acknowledge our similarities and we the people have become afraid of, and for, each other.

Our government has failed on these basics rights. The rights this government was founded to promote, protect and serve.

We have the vote, we need to use it. We the people are the method of our own change. Bring our government back to we the people.

Lives Matter

I watched a video today. It caught my attention as I have been concerned over media hype on the "Black Lives Matter" demonstrations. As I watched, read and followed media reporting, what this one woman said had meaning to me. Why? Because she said what many of my friends, family, and co-workers all say.....How can anyone, defend criminal behavior? How can anyone respond to it with  criminal behavior and believe that is somehow acceptable?

The people who display criminal behavior are frightening and dangerous. Criminals are people who threaten each and every one of us: whether it is our lives, our property or the lives and property of others; they threaten our security. They act with criminal intent and cause intimidation, fear, suppression or violence. I don't think there is a person out there who has not felt or knew when they were being victimized by the unkind, unreasonable or unlawful actions of another.

Martin Luther King's message about the "content of the mind" rather than the "color of the skin" is what I believe in. Why is a person's skin color the issue here, not the actions of that person's mind?

I feel and believe it is an attempt to divert attention away from the choices that person made that put them in harm's way, and to remove the responsibility away from that person... when harm came.

I view this attempt at an excuse for bad behavior the same way I view bad behavior excused because of religion, culture, environment, family, circumstances etc, etc. . Not happening, nope!

I  am held accountable for my actions...and you are held accountable for yours.

Perfume - the essence of memory

I caught a scent the other day
and I was swept away.

Into the childhood memory
Of of fresh turned earth, and
new mown hay.

I caught a scent the other day, and
turned my face to the sun.

And smiled to think
a Memory
is just a scent away.
